An IP camera module is the core electronic camera assembly used to capture video and send it over a network. Unlike a finished camera, a module typically exposes the board, lens and interfaces for integration into a DIY or specialist installation.

Depending on the model, it can include an image sensor, lens, processor, network interface, microSD/TF slot, audio connections, power input and WiFi, Ethernet, PoE or 4G connectivity.

How Does It Work?

The sensor captures the image, the processor encodes video, and the network interface makes the stream available to a compatible app, recorder or network video system.

WiFi uses a wireless network. Ethernet uses a cable. PoE can carry data and power over compatible Ethernet equipment. 4G/LTE uses cellular connectivity.
