2.5GBASE-T SFP RJ45 Copper Transceiver, 100 m Reach
Upgrading an access switch to 2.5G often means pulling new fibre. This SFP module turns an existing RJ45 copper run into a 2.5GBASE-T link up to 100 m, and the maker confirms compatibility with Cisco, Mikrotik, Ubiquiti, TP-Link and Netgear switches. It is for network engineers modernising a copper backbone.
Copper 2.5G in an SFP slot, without fibre
✅ Reuses the copper run you already have The RJ45 port connects the switch to existing structured cabling instead of new fibre.
✅ Swaps in without a switch reboot The module is hot-pluggable, so the rest of the rack keeps working during the change.
✅ Handles an unheated cabinet Case temperature range runs from -40 °C to 85 °C, covering plant rooms and rooftop boxes.
✅ Covers a mixed-brand switch stack Compatibility is confirmed for Cisco, Mikrotik, Ubiquiti, TP-Link, Netgear, Huawei and Juniper.
✅ Keeps a spare for an urgent fault One module in the toolkit turns a failed uplink into a quick swap on site.
The usual job is a small backbone: a 2.5G switch in the comms cupboard, a NAS or access point at the other end of a copper run, and no fibre path between them. Fit the module at both ends, connect with a standard RJ45 patch lead, and the link negotiates 2.5GBASE-T over the distance the cabling allows. Keep the run inside the 100 m rating.
Compared with an optical module, there is no fibre patch lead and no connector cleaning kit to pack. The trade-off is distance: this module works over copper up to 100 m, where fibre reaches further. If the run already carries Ethernet to a desk or a ceiling access point, the copper module keeps that cabling in service.
Two things are worth checking before ordering. First, the slot: the module is an SFP form factor, so the switch needs a slot that accepts it rather than a fixed RJ45 port. Second, the speed at the far end; a 2.5GBASE-T link needs a 2.5G port to talk to. The module has no wireless function and takes its power from the host slot.
