Stairs at night are easier with light only where a foot is about to land. This recessed LED wall light switches on when its PIR sensor picks up movement within a 120-degree fan, and off again around 40 seconds after you leave. For hallways, stairwells and bedside walls.

An evening at home is the test. You come up the stairs with the hall light off, the sensor catches movement in its 120-degree fan, and the tread ahead lights. Forty-odd seconds after the last step it goes dark again, so the fitting does not sit on until morning.
The light is recessed, so it needs a square 85 or 86 mm installation box in the wall. The body is 86 mm wide and sits flush once fitted, which means the box position is worth settling before the wall is finished rather than after.
Colour is the choice that matters at order time: black, gold, grey or white, each for a different wall or handrail. Voltage options cover 90 to 260 V AC, and the light is not dimmable, so it is either on at its set level or off.
