Most failures show up as a symptom rather than a broken valve: a compressor that has to run again before the next tool, a pump that cycles with nothing open, or oil creeping back into a line that should be empty. Fitting the valve where the flow must stay one-way deals with the symptom at the point where it starts.

Thread size is the decision to make before ordering. Measure the male port the valve screws into and match it to one of the four BSP sizes here. A wrong thread cannot be rescued by tightening harder, so check it with a thread gauge if the port is old or has been retapped.

Air, water and oil are the media named for this valve. It carries no stated pressure or temperature rating, so it is not sold here for steam, gas or drinking-water systems where a rated component is required.

Compared with a ball valve there is no handle and nothing to turn, because the valve works on flow direction alone. That is what makes the CV series useful where a line has to stay one-way when nobody is watching it.
