The wiring is five cores: black to ground, red to a 9-32 V DC supply, blue for the RPM signal, yellow for the backlight and white for adjustment. An installation manual comes with the gauge, so the wire colours do not have to be remembered from a forum post.

Most installs need one adjustment. Hold the white wire to ground for about three seconds to enter the speed-ratio setting, then pulse it until the reading matches the engine and release. Leave the wire alone for three seconds and the gauge stores the figure itself, so the setting survives the next start.

Five indicating ranges are offered: 3000, 4000, 6000, 7000 and 8000 RPM. The right one is the smallest range that still covers your engine's maximum, because a scale that just fits the engine is easier to judge at a glance than one that races past it.

The housing measures 52 mm across and weighs 150 g, in stainless steel and nickel-plated plastic. The IP67 rating covers dust and temporary immersion, which is worth having on a boat or in a wash-down bay, but it is a rating rather than a licence to leave the gauge submerged.
