Design the segments around the network

An RS485 installation can need another signal stage when the cable layout and node arrangement call for one. Place the repeater according to the network design rather than simply adding length to an untested bus.

Check baud rate, termination, grounding and supply before installation. Maximum distance and node counts depend on the whole system, and a communication isolator does not replace required electrical protection or certify a hazardous-voltage installation.
