Choose the abrasive for the surface, not the holder
Wrap a suitably sized sheet around the padded base and clamp both ends before starting. Keep it flat and taut so folds do not interrupt the contact area as you move across the work.
The holder gives your hand a raised gripping point, but the abrasive determines what the tool removes. Choose grit and sheet type for the material and stage of preparation, then test a small area before working across the piece.
