Choose the Contact for the Dimension

A hole, an outside width and a recess depth need different contact points. Position the caliper's appropriate measuring surfaces, keep them square to the part and use gentle contact for the reading.

A 0.01 mm display increment is resolution, not a guarantee that every measurement is accurate to that value. Clean the contacts, check zero and use a suitable reference when accuracy matters. Protect the instrument from contamination between checks.
