Build a reference into the movement

A mounted linear scale can help when you want to observe travel along a suitable axis. Choose the measuring range for the movement, then align and mount the scale using its brackets and fixing points.

Relative and absolute modes support different reference methods. Check the mounting and zero before measurement, and use the separate matching output device if you need the described data-transfer function.
