Folding Map Compass with Ruler, Magnifier and Lanyard
Keep map markings visible while aligning a direction for your next walking section. This folding baseplate compass combines a magnetic needle, map scales and a transparent ruler for use with paper maps. It is for walkers practising or using traditional map-and-compass navigation.
- ✅ Align the route without hiding the map — The transparent baseplate leaves underlying map details visible.
- ✅ Measure a section before setting off — Printed ruler and map scales help you compare distances on compatible maps.
- ✅ Inspect small map details — The folding magnifier brings fine print into closer view.
- ✅ Keep the compass within reach at a stop — The included lanyard gives it a carrying attachment.
- ✅ Fold it between map checks — The hinged baseplate closes into a smaller shape for storage.
Bring map scales and direction checks together
Open the clear baseplate and place it flat on the map for an alignment check. The direction line, rotating compass ring and magnetic needle work together for taking and following bearings using the appropriate map-reading method. Keep the compass level and away from nearby magnetic interference.
The ruler edges and printed map scales make it useful for planning a section of the walk before moving. Check that the scale you use matches your map. A folding magnifier is included for inspecting smaller details, while the transparent plate lets you keep the route beneath it in view.
Fold the baseplate when finished and use the included lanyard as a carrying attachment. One compass and one lanyard are supplied. It is a magnetic map tool, with no electronic positioning or route guidance.
Open the folding baseplate for map checks, then close it for storage.
